My Garage Sale Finds

I should say my amazing garage sale finds. Above is some fabric, paper wire (not sure what I'll use it for, it was only 10 cents each, didn't want to leave it behind. A really cute basket of apples or tomatoes, haven't looked too closely yet, and some really cute baskets.
And the best part, I got all these miniature wooden pieces. I think I was there for a hour just sorting through everything. I make sure anything I buy I will use it for something. I don't like hoarding stuff.
Organizing, I love organizing, made sure I had a place to store everything. I got these little jars from the same garage sale, I picked up 6 of them.
There was also a cookbook and a couple of silver trays, not sure if I will use them to hang pictures or make a table.

I also got some white fabric and some red vinyl holders.
And here is the best part, everything cost me only $3 yup I said it and typed it right, only $3. You can't beat that, or can I...maybe next weekend. I love this season of garage sales. You just have to have an open mind and think outside the box when you look at items. Of course it was simple today because they were actual miniatures.

Stay tuned, subscribe and join so you can see what these items will transform to. Thank you for reading.

And thank you to my new members and to all who comment.
You guys are awesome and inspire me.

Have a great week!

Wish I was Still into Brass Miniatures

I found these brass miniatures the other day, I haven't seen them in years and forgot I had them. I thought my miniature obsession started when my niece was born but I guess it started alot earlier. I bought and started collecting these in my twenties, I won't tell you how long ago it was, that would reveal too much.

I found about twenty-five pieces, I didn't want to keep them all, because I'm actually not into brass miniatures anymore, I don't like brass at all. So I sold the other pieces and kept my favourite, pictured above. I am thinking of painting them so they can fit in the new dollhouse. I know its crazy, they are so heavy and I suppose they are antiques?? It just doesn't suit the house so I think I will have to paint it, tell me what you think, remember...I hate brass.

Monster High Doll Skull Academy Spiral Staircase

YouTube Viewer Request - this is for you Froggirl.
Froggirl is also building her own Monster High house, she asked about the stairs.
So here is a few pictures so you can get a better look at it without the paint. Don't forget to fill the gift wrap tube with newspapers to make it stronger. The dolls don't fit well going up the stairs...to make it work I think the stairs should be further apart.  Keep me posted on your progress.

How to Make Photo Light Box

I was getting frustrated working on my furniture and accessories for the dollhouse, taking pictures as I go along so I can share it with you and my YouTube channel, but the pictures were never good enough, or like the many pictures I have seen on other blogs. I even got two pieces of white canvas, got the light to shine on the item, take my pictures and crap...bad lighting, shadows, just not appealing, and after working on the item for many hours, it was really getting to me.

So I started a google search 'how to take better pictures' and all these tutorials for this light box was coming up, so I watched all of them and I realized I was doing everything wrong. So I decided to make my own light box and I am so glad I did. I wish I could re-take all the pictures again, but who has time for that.

Below is a tutorial on how to make a light box the thrifty way. If you want to go all out, buy muslim instead of using tissue paper, it will be easier to work with to.

Materials needed:
cardboard box (packing company $2)
white duct tape (Dollarama 2 x $1)
bristol board (Dollarama $.50)
light bulb - daylight - full spectrum (found it at Dollarama for only $2 gotta love the dollar store)
saw bulbs at other stores for $10 I'll say it again - gotta love the dollar store
White tissue paper (Dollarama $1) you can also use tracing paper or muslin for all you big spenders

Urgh...it ripped...tissue paper, this is why it's better to use muslin...if it happens one more time... I'm buying the muslim, but I did get all the tissue on there without tearing it again, just have to be careful when I store it.

Wow, what a difference. The after pictures definitely look better than the before, but I'm thinking shouldn't the background be alot whiter?? I think the picutres look so much better then before and I am fine with it.

Could be the $2 bulb???
Can anyone shed any light on this..forgive the pun.

I can't wait for my next doll house project so I can take pictures in my new light box.
Hopefully it will be this weekend.

Thank you for visiting. Send me your comments, what do you think of the before and after.
